• 1960s - the first attempts of deep brain stimulation were conducted.
• 1987 - the research on deep brain stimulation of the thalamic nucleus ventralis intermedius to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease was published
• 1993 - deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus was introduced as a treatment of Parkinson's disease.
• 1997 - deep brain stimulation was approved as a treatment of Parkinson's disease by FDA.
