Sousveillance is a term coined by the EyTap's creator Steve Mann. It is derived from surveillance, which comes from the French "surveiller", English for “to watch over.” Sousveillance roughly translates to “to watch from below” and it is meant to represent the opposite of surveillance. This type of reverse supervision is envisioned to balance the power in the one-side surveillance society we live in now. By giving the general public the means to record, share and evaluate their interaction with the authorities and with others, society can fight against totalitarianism, Mann argues.
